Fundamentals, Principles and Measurement of Mechanical Geogrid Stabilisation 

Course Overview

Gain an understanding of the fundamentals of geogrid mechanical stabilisation and identify relevant pavement techniques which measure this benefit.

This presentation provides a description of geogrid types and manufacturing processes. Mechanisms of geogrid stabilisation are discussed and a description of Accelerated Pavement Testing is provided. The Structural Equivalency concept is outlined and in-situ pavement modulus measurement techniques ie. LWD, FWD, APLT are reviewed. 


John Figueroa is a widely recognised pavement engineering specialist in flexible and rigid pavements. He is a Fellow Chartered Professional Engineer with more than 30 years of experience in pavement engineering and project management. John has extensive experience in pavements across the private and public sectors for major infrastructure projects and has been involved in Direct Design, D&C and Alliance forms of contract. John's collaborative style has contributed to his involvement in many of the major highway and motorway upgrades delivered in NSW over the past few years as a Subject Matter Expert, Discipline Leader and Technical Advisor.

John has proven technical leadership in pavements within the consulting industry (Maunsell, AECOM and Aurecon and in joint ventures with Arup, Arcadis, SMEC and Jacobs). John is the Director of John Figueroa Consulting (JFC) which was formed in 2016 as an independent consulting practice to provide technical advice on pavements.
